I'm going to be working outdoors in the Florida sun in August?
What sun lotion/sunscreen would give me the best protection, but also, I wouldn't mind getting a tan too? I'm just not into the whole getting burned thing. I'm going to be working outdoors 10-12 hours a day. I'm from the UK(but I am a US citizen, with family in Florida, before anyone makes a stupid comment about staying in the UK/ not being welcome in US etc.) so me, and my skin isn't used to the sun/heat of Florida.

- I like Coppertone SPF 50 lotion, you don;t need to reapply as often.
- The Florida sun takes a little getting used to; Wear sunglasses & a hat, t-shirt or loose shirt that covers at least your head, neck, shoulders & back & drink lots & lots of water. Avoid the urge to take your shirt off, it will not make you cooler. If you use sunscreen, use the highest factor until you adjust to the heat & sun. Try to be in the shade as much as possible. The trick is too keep the body covered without overheating.
- my that is brutal worst month out of the year and that many hours! i hope you are not as light skinned as most Brits. I would definitely wear 50 spf or more and use a hat and light colored cotton shirts (no black). drink fluids and salty stuff during the day on your breaks, try to limit caffeine, alcohol most people down here are hispanic and have tougher pigmentation but you can get used to it and yes you are welcome in US why not?
- Working outdoors 10 hours a day in summer will produce a tan no matter what you wear. You should know that SPF 50 (the max rating permissable in the UK) is only about 2% more effective than SPF 30. SPF protection drops off progressively after about 20. Broadband protection against both UVA (which causes melanoma but not burning) and UVB (which causes burning) is more important than gross SPF numbers. And you must remember to re-apply after a couple of hours. You sweat or wipe the stuff off while working. Also, don't forget a loose fitting hat or cap with a brim and sunglasses to protect your eyes.
