Florida Sun? Hi, I have a wierd question but i was wondering what i should do. I am going to Florida for a week over easter and i always get sun poisoning from laying out in the sun while in florida. Is there anything i could do so i can still lay out and not get sun poisoning, and hopefully get a tan? What would you reccommend? A certain SPF for sun block or time limits i should be in the sun?
I'm going to be working outdoors in the Florida sun in August? What sun lotion/sunscreen would give me the best protection, but also, I wouldn't mind getting a tan too? I'm just not into the whole getting burned thing. I'm going to be working outdoors 10-12 hours a day. I'm from the UK(but I am a US citizen, with family in Florida, before anyone makes a stupid comment about staying in the UK/ not being welcome in US etc.) so me, and my skin isn't used to the sun/heat of Florida.
I am trying to find a flower that will grow and bloom in the hot Florida sun.? I have a small flower bed in front of my house that gets direct sunlight almost all day long and in the afternoons it is hot. Plus, I have added nice soil but it is mixed in with the existing ground which is dirt and sand mixed. What flowering plant can withstand these conditions and not burn up?
What to do? The bougainvillea grows galore but does not bloom anymore in the south Florida sun. Ideas? Do we need to add something to the soil?

I Need Advice On Not Getting Sunburned While In Florida This Week-I'm Allergic To The Sun & Have Lupus? I'm getting ready to travel to Florida this week with my 13 year old Son. I'm 41 years old and I have Lupus, Fibromyalgia and I'm allergic to the Sun. Besides using a lot of sunscreen and an umbrella does anyone have any advice on surviving outdoors in the Florida Sun? I do have a large brimmed hat and sun glasses. If I do get a severe sunburn-it may cause me to be Hospitalized. I cannot cancel or delay my trip because I won a sweepstakes and this is the only week available to meet the famous person listed as the Grand Prize. I already have my airline tickets, hotel reservations and the limo is waiting for me. No, I'm not a wealthy person-just a lucky one to win such a great trip!
How does the sun in Illinois compare to Florida?? Details? I'm always having a debate on the intensity of the sun and can't seem to find more info on the internet. For example if it was the summertime with clear skies. Some claim that 10min in the sun in Florida would be the equivalent of 30min in Illinois. Or that the intensity of the sun in the summer in Illinois would be equal to the Spring in Florida. Can anyone shed some light on this?? (hahaha)
how can i avoid sun burn when i go to florida? my family is going to florida for vacation from the 19th to the 29th this month. its a tradition we've been doing yearly since i was in 4th grade. i'm in 12th grade now. every year i get really bad sun burn and i'm hoping to avoid it this year. what are some things i can do? lots of sun tan lotion? for the first day go out in the sun a little at a time? should i look into tanning booths before i go? i live in minnesota and its freezing here so i havent been out in the sun for awhile.
Good groundcover for Central Florida Sun? I have an area about 40X5'. Right now I have beach sunflower - which keeps dying. It is planted behind my salt water pool (which has overflowed with the large amount of rain this year). It has full sun, on a slope towards a retention pond. It is a clay soil that does't drain well. In the bed I have small palms, flowing garlic, and dwarf Ixora. Flowers that are yellow/white/or non-flowering.
What might grow well in a shaded/very little sun area of florida? I have an area next to my porch that right now is just sand. I need something that will grow well in a pot since it's an apt and well in shade but it is still hot (florida summers). My basil isn't doing too well maybe because it's TOO hot but that's only plant I have. Can a Ball Python die in Florida sun? Mine did. Not sure if it's the heat or not.? I just had 2 snakes die in my outside cage. Half of the cage gets sun, the other half does not. I found them today, both dead and stinking, and wondering if maybe the sun killed them. The reason I'm wondering, though, is that they were rescued from an abandoned house and were sick. Protect my skin from Florida sun in a stylish way? I've lived in the Southeast for a number of years; now I'm in Florida. I've been advised by a dermatologist to stay out of the sun, which up to now I've managed to do. But now I spend a lot of time waiting for buses, walking from buses to buildings or my car, etc. I've seen Chinese people and one Caucasian American woman using umbrellas to keep off the sun, which women in the South used to do even into the '60s. I'm seriously considering doing this myself. Can I make it look like a fashion statement? Instead of just looking eccentric? Any ideas? Please don't tell me to use sunscreen and a hat, because I already do but that doesn't seem to be enough. Porcelain and especially Car, please read posts before you respond. We're talking about a severe sun allergy here.
Any ideas on a good shade tree for South Florida? Trying to decide what tree to plant in front yard that will provide good shade, not have too many leaves fall, no nuts or fruits, grow stem root, not roots that would mess up the yard or maybe damage a septic system and can withstand the Florida sun and weather, or otherwise a low maintenance tree. Will the sun Florida lighten my copper highlights to a blonde? im going on holiday in 2weeks to florida, and i had my hair highlighted y'day at Regis (which was nothing like i wanted...:( ) I wanted light brown/blonde highlights and got brassy ginger ones instead, which fair enough my hair is dark brown but i did say if they were'ne going to go the colour i want i wouldn't bother. So i'm thinking, shall i just get it dyed allover browny red again or wait and see if the sun makes it go blonder (or basically less ginger). South Florida pepper plant problem. Are they getting too much sun? I have 4 pepper plants growing. They have been in the ground for about two weeks. Up until today 3 out of 4 were ok. I am watering at night after the sun goes down and in the morning early. The two that are failing have what looks like burned leaves. The one is almost gone. Am I overwatering? Is it too much sun? They get full sun early and into the afternoon. The jalapeno is thriving but the bell's are the effected ones. Any ideas?

Burning sensation on my skin out in the sun? I have had this problem and I have no clue what it could be. I live in the great sunny state of Florida, and the sun is out 99% of the time of course. Sometimes when I go out in the sun my skin hurts, its like a burning feeling, its like someone is pinching me on my arms and legs. Is this a serious problem, its not sunburn because I am black, and blacks don't get sun burn. I don't use sunblock or anything because thats for sunburn. So could this be a serious condition?
Sun light killing bactera- how long does it take? I have a bunch of files outside drying. I got them wet about a week ago unknowingly and for a week or so they have been collecting mildow and mold. How long will it take for the sun to kill the bacteria? By the way- I am in south Florida and the sun is really bright- so much so it hurt my eyes when I was outside for a while. This is mold. I see it had grown over the files and made stains. If i look close enough (which I won't) to some parts, I can see the spores. If I cannot kill them, will they make me sick? I still need the papers inside and will take them with me to store in my air conditioned closet and hen later use to work with.
